Chungking Express

Two interweaving stories take place around Chungking Mansions, a mazelike commercial complex in Hong Kong. One cop, lovesick after being dumped by his girlfriend, falls for a mysterious, blond-wigged, gun-toting femme fatale, while a second cop remains oblivious to the attentions of a California-dreamy waitress at a fast food counter who resorts to re-arranging his apartment behind his back.

Chungking Express premiered in Hong Kong in 1994 before receiving wide acclaim overseas, launching Wong Kar Wai onto the international independent film scene. In 1996, it was distributed in North America through Quentin Tarantino's Rolling Thunder distribution label. In 2017, L’Immagine Ritrovata commenced on the 4K digital restoration of the film in Bologna and Hong Kong under the supervision of Wong Kar Wai.
